The wrist brace (carpal/carpus brace) can be used for carpal hyperextension and to support other deformities. Similar to the hock brace the biomechanical principles of give a “fail safe” mode if the straps fail.
We fabricate two types of carpal braces for a dog's wrist:
Jointed: This design is great for dogs that have carpal hyperextension AND still have the strength to push off with the limb.
Non-Jointed: This design is great for carpal hyperextension with little carpal strength OR in cases where the joint needs to be immobilized to allow healing of the soft tissue tears and inflammation.
